We are better known as Dalits, the original natives of Dravida land. Our community name was coined by Tamil social activist Periyar Ramasami. He had launched a crusade against casteism and division among the people based on castes in Tamil Nadu. Our castes include Paraiyar, Chakkili or Arunthathiyar, most of whom live in south India and speak one of the south Indian languages.
